HS GOLF: Hamrick leads the way as Model takes third at Patriot Invitational

Despite being short-handed, the Model boys golf team still put together an outstanding performance in the Patriot Invitational on Monday at the University Club at Arlington.Led by Mason Hamrick, Model finished with a total score of 333 and finished third, just four shots behind Lexington Catholic and Rockcastle County. The event featured 17 teams from 16 schools.Catholic and Rockcastle both had total team scores of 329, but LexCath took the title on a scorecard matchup.Grayson Hill of Tates Creek and Cameron Turner of Jackson City each shot a 74, tied for first place and went into a playoff to decide the individual championship. Hamrick and three other golfers posted a score of 76 and tied for third place.Wayne County and West Jessamine (337) tied for fourth place, just ahead of Corbin (338).Hamrick earned all-tournament honors with his performance and Model’s three other team golfers shot in the 80s. Parker Hastings had an 84, Cooper Eberle shot an 86 and Will Feese had an 87.Jake Fritz, Model’s No. 2 golfer, had to withdraw during the event because of an injury.Only the top four scores from each squad count toward the team’s overall mark.Model also had five student-athletes playing in the tournament as individuals. Caleb Ballard shot an 85, Caswell Patton shot an 86, Thomas Luxon shot a 99, Austin Mattingly shot a 105 and Nate Feese shot a 118.Madison Southern shot a 443 and was led by Sam Bingham (108). Dawson Chambers finished with a score of 109, Bobby Fannin shot a 110 and Jonah Wooten shot a 116.Madison Central’s junior varsity team also competed in the event. The Indians had a team score of 365 and were led by Cameron Travis, who shot an 83.
